Superficially sun decks may seem rather simple structures, essentially wooden platforms surrounded by a railing and possibly accessed by stairs. By their nature however decks are large expanses of exposed horizontal wood, contain myriad joints and seams, and commonly are in close contact with soil. They are thus vulnerable to early and rapid decay.
