Example 1

In the design of this sundeck our Company sought to achieve both functional elegance and consistency with the architecture of this 1907 home whose exterior we restored in 2000 (see Classic Box, example 3). The success of our endeavor may be judged from this documentation.

Framing lumber is pressure treated for rot resistance.
(5) The ipe (“iron wood”) decking was attached with blind fasteners.
(6) Deck finishing
The decking was first sanded, and then saturated with multiple coats of preservative oil.

(7) Finished deck walking surface.
(8) Railing construction
All components were precoated.  Assembled sections were then installed, seams caulked, and final finish coatings applied.
(9) Completion
The rail cap material also is ipe.
