The large pipe was part of the heating system and could not removed. This indeed presented a design challenge. |

The awkwardly located pipe is in the initial stage of being encased (disguised) into a bookcase archway. |

The suspended shaded lights are salvaged antiques. A pool table subsequently was placed beneath them. |

Clearly a suspended heating pipe could not remain. Necessity at times turns to virtue. |

Construction in progress, north perspective
Great emphasis was placed on sound isolation. The ceiling is a laminate of sheetrock over sound suppressing board and is suspended on specialized hangers. Mineral fiber sound attenuation bats further suppress sound transfer. |

Note the ceiling mounted DVD projector. Also, at room’s right corner is a wet bar. |

Lighting was designed for maximum flexibility. The various task and mood lighting groups are independently switched and adjustable for brightness. |

The movie screen disappears into the ceiling. The compact disc cabinet to its left is a disguised door accessing electronics. |

Cabinet detail.
The finish consists of five coats of various stains, four coats of sanding sealer, and four coats of high gloss polyurethane varnish. |
