A Short Discussion of Older Homes:
Owners of Seattle homes constructed prior to WWII are most fortunate. Basic configuration, plus the design of components, reflect long accumulated experience in the construction of durable houses. Also, wood quality is superb: dense, straight grain old growth fir and cedar.
Regrettably, such houses can no longer be built. Labor-intensive construction and profligate use of now exorbitantly expensive (if even obtainable) materials prevent this. However, with care these homes can last for centuries.
