A Short Discussion of Victorian Style Homes
Late in the nineteenth century new technology enabled low cost production of complex wooden shapes. The rather abrupt liberation from flat profiles, coupled with the prevailing low labor costs enabled a novel new direction in residential construction. Elaborate decoration supplemented the purely functional. The novelty of this architectural stye apparently ran its course in a relatively short time. Such construction was largely restricted to only a few decades, on either side of the end of the nineteen century. That these special homes deserve preservation is obvious.
