Beneath the concealment of fractured and poorly bonded paint lay nearly a century’s accumulated deterioration. |

Bay’s stripped lower wall, and repair detail
Long neglect of open seams and unsealed end grain had taken a toll. The rot however remained localized and repairable. |

Window sill stripped and primed, and repaired
The deterioration was conspicuous; however the window remained restorable after ninety-one years of indifferent maintenance. To expect similar durability from contemporary second growth lumber would be naive. |

Corbels stripped, and primed, filled and caulked
Once stocks of such clear old growth fir were plentiful. |

Voids resulting from the excision of rotted material were filled with a flexible epoxy, and joints and seams heavily caulked. |

Completion
Underlying elastic and highly water resistant sealants provide primary protection against further water intrusion. The color coats are essentially only a renewable glaze. |

Such construction is irreplaceable. It can only be preserved.

The dental mold is a window to the far lower labor costs of the past. Each block was individually cut and installed.
