Significant deterioration was localized and clearly attributable to corroded drains. Otherwise, after ninety-two years, deterioration was primarily superficial, a tribute to the building’s sound design and superb materials. |

(2) Paint delamination typical of water saturated wood, in this case due to a corroded eave trough drain.
Surprisingly little rot had developed, a testament to the quality of the old growth lumber. |

The condition of this window was typical. After ninety-two years damage was largely confined to surface checking and end grain cracks, a tribute to the shelter of overhangs and old growth material. |
