A Short Discussion of Contemporary Residential Construction
Homes built in the early decades of the twentieth century are amazingly resilient. Heavily dimensioned dense old growth limber, plus design elements reflecting long accumulated experience produced conspicuously durable houses. Even after decades of neglect these homes may still be cost effectively restored.
Unfortunately much contemporary construction is a parody of earlier home building. Minimally dimensioned, soft second growth lumber, design features prioritizing short term economy over long term durability, plus at times startlingly slipshod workmanship result in dramatically rapid deterioration.
Gary D. Torgerson Co. work on contemporary Seattle homes seeks to remedy to the fullest extent possible the shortfalls of modern home construction.
