A Short Discussion of Colonial Style Homes:
Colonial homes are characterized by their double pitched gambrel roofs which wrap around a conspicuously increased proportion of the home’s exterior envelope. Typically first story skirt roofs also extend across the gable ends. In essence then the colonial home features reduced wall surface area, with each story sheltered by its own overhang. An aesthetically pleasing and inherently durable home results.
